Monthly Movie: The Mask

  • EMP Theatre (Glass sliding doors on Fort Street) 2328 Trent Street Victoria, BC, V8R 4Z3 Canada (map)

Join us for Monthly Movie Night - a free, community-driven film night that offers a welcoming space to gather, relax, and connect. Each screening takes place in a supportive, non-clinical environment and is designed to encourage shared experience, conversation, and a sense of belonging.

Evenings begin with a pre-movie performance by Friends of Music Society, featuring local musicians and creating a warm, community-centred atmosphere before the film begins.

Movies are selected for their heart, humour, or thought-provoking themes. Light snacks and refreshments are provided, and everyone is welcome - whether you attend with friends or come on your own.

About the movie: Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) is a shy, unlucky bank clerk who struggles with confidence and constantly gets pushed around. One night he discovers a mysterious wooden mask that contains the power of the Norse trickster god Loki. When Stanley puts it on, he transforms into a wild, green-faced cartoon-like alter ego called “The Mask,” gaining incredible powers, exaggerated confidence, and reality-bending abilities.

Using these powers, Stanley pursues the beautiful nightclub singer Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz) and unintentionally becomes a target of gangsters who want the mask’s power for themselves. As chaos erupts around the city, Stanley must decide whether the mask is helping him become who he really is—or turning him into something dangerous.
