Imagine After Hours Virtual Series

During COVID, we produced a virtual series on our YouTube Channel that includes music, comedy, arts and crafts, recipes and cooking, and personal stories, all from people in our mental health community. The collection of videos is here.

In Episode 5 we chat with James Kerr from Island Community Mental Health about two of their programs: GROW and NetWorks. We talk about setting recovery goals, going back to school, and building various skills and activities that help people transition into the community and find a sense of purpose. The Friends of Music's Ukulelians wrap this episode up with a cheerful tune called "Sunny Afternoon." 🎸

In Episode 7 we're sharing a powerful spoken word set from your local queer and disabled superhero, Dana Neily. She is a poet in a performer here in Victoria.

Dana has been exploring her own trauma through the lens of self-love and will share couple of poems touching on some sensitive themes, as well as some lighter and happier stuff during this time of anxiety.

Bruce Saunders ran Movie Monday’s out of EMP theatre for more than 26 years, presenting his hand-selected films to an audience by donation πŸ“½οΈ. We spoke to Bruce about his passion for film and mental health and his top 5 movie recommendations. These are his Pandemic Picks 🎬.

Episode 11 features two stunning performances from Friends of Music Society's "Moodswing Chorus" and "The Eclectics". Filmed back in February on the outdoor patio at Imagine Studio Cafe, aka "Squid Row," these performances feature musicians with a mental illness playing in partnership with other musicians in the community.

Ilia shares her experience living with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), the stigma she faces, and how the MHSGV - a completely volunteer run non-profit - helps support people to navigate the system and recieve support for mental health.

Today we're dropping in with Hazel Meredith, Executive Director of Mental Health Recovery Partners, South Island to discuss their various services that provide support to folks in mental health recovery, with or without substance use.

In 2010, Michael rode the sum total of 40,000 km across 33 countries to destigmatize and change the narrative around mental health. Michael shares his story about why he chose to Ride and some of the biggest challenges he faced dealing with stigma.
